Rain on the Quay Arcades

Today’s mural

Rain on the Quay Arcades

Rain comes down the river like a grey curtain, and the quay folds itself up: awnings rolled, shutters pulled, café umbrellas furled. Water runs down every tiled façade at once, and the whole street looks freshly washed and slightly offended.

How to play

  1. 1

Place. Drag a tile from the tray onto the wall. Drop it on another tile to swap them.

  2. 2

Turn. Tap a tile to rotate it a quarter turn clockwise.

  3. 3

Restore. A tile in its right place, the right way up, glints. Fill the wall to finish.

The small mural on the side shows what you’re rebuilding. Tap it to see it larger. Once the wall is full, a clue can point out a tile that’s wrong. Tiles that look identical are interchangeable. On a keyboard: arrows to move, Enter to turn, Space to pick up and put down, Delete to send a tile back to the tray.

A cozy tile puzzle, once a day

Azulo Daily is a free daily picture puzzle made of tiles, played in your browser. Every day there is one new blue-and-white mural, painted in the style of Portuguese azulejos: the glazed ceramic tiles that line the walls of cloisters, chapels, railway stations and old houses across Portugal. The panel arrives in pieces: forty-five tiles on a shelf, shuffled and turned the wrong way. Put it back together at your own pace. There is no countdown, and nothing is lost if you walk away and come back.

Everyone gets the same mural and the same scramble on the same day, so you can compare times with a friend. A new mural arrives at midnight, your local time. It’s free, with no sign-up and nothing to install.

Questions

When does the puzzle change?
At midnight, wherever you are.
Does it save my progress?
Yes, in this browser. Close the tab and your tiles stay where you left them.
Can I replay a mural?
Yes. Once it’s restored, Replay deals the same tiles again, and Start over does the same partway through. Your first restore is the one you share and the one that counts for your streak; your best replay is shown beside it.
Is there more to play?
Azulo Monastery has thirty murals across six acts, on iPhone, iPad and Android. No ads, and it works offline.

Azulo Daily

Mural restored

A blue-and-white azulejo mural of a run of stone arcades along a river quay in the rain, their striped market awnings half rolled up over stalls of pots, baskets and crates beneath a balustrade, tall narrow houses with patterned tile façades, iron balconies, shutters and terracotta roofs stacked up the bank, café umbrellas furled among potted plants, a covered boat moored in rain-ringed water, crates and a barrel on the quay, an open umbrella by a bollard, and gulls under rain-streaked clouds.
